Modern gliders have a long
narrow wings and they use a flow of air to fly in the sky for hours. A glider
has no engine, or some system of impulse. It moves quietly in the air and flies
large distances. Gliders have a long history.
The first glider was created in
1853. In 1890 German
engineer Otto Lilienthal showed how to control a glider.
Wright brothers created a lot of gliders to learn the principles of
flight. Gliders were used for military purposes in World War II. Glider was
built by prisoners of war.
